Cathedral Canyon Cave Push Print
Wednesday, 13 January 2016 13:32

Cathedral Canyon Cave has been pushed to 6500+m extending the cave approx. 3300m from Sheck Exley's 1990 record penetration.

The technology and personnel to complete this latest dive - CCR's, multiple large DPV's, dive team setting up the cave with multiple safety cylinders and DPVs for the push divers, drysuits, deco habitat - is in stark contrast to Sheck's final dive in the system - open circuit, two DPV's and swimming, solo, wet suit, hot water hose from surface stuffed into wet suit for deco.

Of considerable note is, after radio location of two locales in the current survey, Sheck's original survey (done solo) over 3000+m resulted in radio locales out by only 14m at 485m and 24m at 3100m close to the end of his orginal line. This is an error rate of only 0.8%. Remarkable!
